Sort and group the notes list

The notes list can be rearranged to fit the way you work: choose which criterion the notes are sorted by, whether to gather them into groups (by year, month, week or letter), and how much information each item shows. Your choices are remembered and apply wherever the list appears. This page details each option and where to find them.

Where the options are

The controls sit in the small toolbar right below the search box: the "Group & sort" button opens a menu with the sorting and grouping options, and the button beside it toggles the list density. They apply to whatever the list is showing at the moment — all notes, a notebook, a tag, favorites.

  1. 1Open the notes list in the Notes module.
  2. 2Click the "Group & sort" button in the toolbar below the search box.
  3. 3Adjust "Order by", "Sort by" and "Group by" as described below; the list is rearranged instantly.
Your preferences are saved on the device and restored on the next visit — no need to set them again.

Sort

Sorting defines the sequence in which the notes appear. Under "Sort by" you choose the criterion, and under "Order by" the direction.

Date created
Sorts by the moment the note was created. Handy for following the timeline of when ideas came up.
Date edited
Sorts by the last time the note was changed. Keeps what you touched most recently at the top.
Title
Sorts by the note's name, in alphabetical order.
Ascending
From smallest to largest: oldest dates first, or titles from A to Z.
Descending
From largest to smallest: most recent dates first, or titles from Z to A.
Sorting by title is smart about real-world titles: accented letters sort together with their base letter, and a leading emoji is ignored — "💬 Standup" files under S, not at the end of the list.

Group

Grouping splits the list into sections with a header, instead of showing everything in a continuous sequence. The "Group by" criterion works together with the chosen sorting.

None
Shows the list straight through, with no section headers.
Default
Keeps the app's own sections (such as the recent notes block) and the nesting of subnotes under their parent.
Year
Groups notes by the year they were created, ideal for large archives and long-term views.
Month
Groups by creation month, good for seeing the activity of each period.
Week
Groups by creation week, a middle ground between the detail of the day and the view of the month.
Abc
Groups by the first letter of the title, forming sections from A to Z. Accented initials join their base letter ("Álgebra" goes under A) and titles without letters gather under "#".
Year, month and week always group by the creation date, even when the list is sorted by edit date.

Density

The density button next to "Group & sort" switches how much information each list item displays, balancing how many notes fit on the screen with how much context you see at a glance.

Compact (title only)
Reduces each item to the title, with the time since the last edit at the right — more notes fit on the screen at once.
Show full info
Shows the creation date above the title and chips for the attachment count, the tags and the notebook the note belongs to.
Combine sorting and grouping for specific views — for example, sort by edit date and group by month to see, month by month, what you touched most recently.
