Searching your notes

There are two ways to find a note: quick search, always within reach in the list, which filters by title as you type; and advanced search, which also digs through the body text, the tags and the attachments. Both respect the selected notebook — with "All notebooks" you search your entire base. This page explains each one and the operators that refine your results.

The search box at the top of the notes list filters results instantly as you type. It searches note titles, so it's the fastest way to reach a note whose name you remember. Every word you type must appear in the title.

The comparison ignores accents and letter case: typing "ideias" finds "Ideias" and "idéias" all the same. You don't have to get the accents or capitalization right.

Quick search looks only at the title. If the term you're after is in the middle of the note's text, use the "In text" field of advanced search or the intext: operator.
The search runs within the selected notebook. Switch the selector to "All notebooks" to search everything.

The sliders button inside the search box opens the advanced search panel, with one field per criterion: "In title", "In text", "By tag" and the "Has attachment" switch. The full search runs on the server and digs through the note's entire content — body text, tags and attachments — with no need to get accents right.

  1. 1Click the sliders button in the search box to open the panel.
  2. 2Fill in the criteria you want: a term for the title, a term for the body, one or more tags, and/or turn on "Has attachment".
  3. 3Click "Search" (or press Enter in a field) to apply.
  4. 4The criteria are written into the search box as operators — you see exactly what was searched and can edit the text directly.

You can combine criteria to narrow results — for example, search for a term in the body and at the same time limit it to notes that have an attachment.

Search operators

The advanced panel and the search box speak the same language: operators. You can type them directly, mix them with loose words, and edit what the panel wrote. Use quotes to group several words into a single phrase.

intitle:"phrase"
Searches only in the note title. Loose words without an operator behave the same way. Also accepted as title:.
intext:"phrase"
Searches the note's body text — reaches the full content, not just the title. Also accepted as text: or body:.
tag:name
Filters notes that have the given tag. Handy for gathering everything on the same topic.
has:file
Shows only notes that have an attachment (image or file).
Quotes group several words into an exact phrase. intext:"team meeting" searches for the whole expression; without the quotes, each word is considered separately.

Operators can be combined in the same search to cross conditions, for example searching for a phrase in the body only among notes with an attachment.

Typing "#" as the first character of the search box does not search: it opens the list of your tags, for browsing and picking one. See the "Tags" page.

What does (and doesn't) show up in results

Locked notes — and notes inside a locked notebook — don't appear in search results: protected content stays out of reach of the search.
Notes in the trash don't appear in search results. Open the Trash view to browse and, if you like, restore a deleted note.
If the search can't be completed (a connection hiccup, for instance), the app warns you and keeps the current list on screen — just use "Retry".
