Contacts

Contacts keeps every person and organization you deal with in one place: rich records with several emails, phones and addresses organized in tabs, colored categories and tags to group them, favorites and a powerful search to find them fast, duplicate merging with a preview, a trash with restore, and vCard import and export to move them in and out. This page is the overview — each topic has its own page below.

Overview

Each contact is a record with fields spread across tabs — General, Address, Social and Notes. Fields like email, phone, address and date accept several values, so one contact can hold a work and a personal email at once. You group contacts into colored categories, type free tags, star favorites, and search across all their data from a single full-width search box. Deleted contacts go to a trash where they can be restored, and edits made offline are queued and synced when you are back online.

Contacts are also the people the rest of the app can reference — team members of your workspace appear under Team members in the sidebar, and birthdays you record on a contact show up in the Calendar module.

Core concepts

Contact
A person or organization, with multi-value fields (several emails, phones, addresses and dates) organized in tabs.
Category
A colored group listed in the sidebar. A contact can belong to several categories at once; type @ in the search box to filter by one.
Tag
A free keyword you type to classify contacts your own way. Tags are reached by typing # in the search box.
Favorite
A star that pins the people you reach for most — one click on the star in the list, or the Favorite contact option in the form.
Trash
Deleted contacts are kept here and can be restored or deleted forever; Empty trash clears it at once.

Finding contacts fast

The search box spans the full width of the list and hints at its modes right in the placeholder: Search · # tags · @ categories. Plain text matches name, nickname, emails, phones, company, role, department, city and tags — accents and case are ignored. Typing # opens the tag list and @ opens the category list; picking one pins the criterion in the field (for example #vip) with an X button to clear it.

In this module

Each topic below has its own page:

Add and edit
Create a contact, the tabbed form, multi-value fields, photo, dates, addresses on the map, merging duplicates and the trash.
Categories and tags
Colored categories (several per contact), tags via #, favorites, and every way to search and filter.
Import and export (vCard)
Bring contacts in from a .vcf file and export them back out — both live in the command palette (Ctrl+K).
vCard is a universal format: contacts you export here open in your phone, Google Contacts or Apple Contacts, and vice versa.
