Embeds
An embed brings content from somewhere else to appear inside the note — another note, a YouTube or Vimeo video, an audio recording, a board from the Draw module, or a table from the Bases module. Instead of copying and pasting (and ending up with an outdated copy), you insert a live window: the content keeps living at its source and is shown here. This page explains what an embed is, how to insert one through the "/" menu, and what each type can do.
What an embed is
Embedding means inserting, inside the note, content that lives somewhere else so that it appears here. The note does not keep a copy: it shows the source content at the point where you inserted the embed.
Because what you see comes from the source, it follows the changes made there. That way you keep a single source of truth for that content and can still display it within the note's text.
How to insert
Every embed is added through the "/" menu, at the cursor position (the "+" button that appears next to a block offers the same list).
- 1Place the cursor on the line where the embed should appear.
- 2Type "/" to open the insert menu.
- 3Start typing the name of the type — "Embed note", "Video", "Draw board", "Table reference", or "Record audio" — to filter the list.
- 4Choose the type and provide the requested source: pick the note, board, or table, paste the video URL, or record the audio.
Embed types
These are the contents you can embed inside a note:
- Embed note
- Inserts a live preview of another note inside this one. The content is displayed read-only — editing happens in the source note.
- Video
- Embeds a YouTube or Vimeo video from its URL, playing right inside the note. Pasting a video URL into the text also turns into an embed automatically.
- Draw board
- Inserts a board created in the Draw module, showing the drawing inside the note.
- Table reference
- Inserts a reference to a table from the Bases module, bringing that data into the note.
- Record audio
- Records audio from the microphone and inserts a player at the cursor. See the "Attachments and audio" page for details.
Embed another note
The note embed is a window into another note: you see its current content here, without opening it. The card shows the note's title on top; click the title (or the open icon) to jump to the source note. Hovering over the embed reveals alignment controls (left, center, right).
- The preview is always up to date: editing the source note is reflected here automatically.
- Inside the embed the content is read-only — to change it, open the source note.
- An empty source note shows "This note is empty."
- A note locked by the Vault is not exposed: the embed shows "Locked note" instead of the content.
Video
The video embed asks for the address (URL) of a YouTube or Vimeo video — other services show "Unsupported video URL (use YouTube or Vimeo)". The player runs inside the note: click the thumbnail and it plays right there.
- Three display modes, shown on hover: "Video" (inline player), "Thumbnail" (a poster image), and "Link" (a compact chip).
- Drag the side handle to resize; the height follows automatically at 16:9.
- You can add a caption and align the block left, center, or right.
Draw board
The board embed shows a drawing from the Draw module. On hover you choose between "Card" (a live preview; if the board has multiple frames, the card becomes a small slideshow you can page through), "Image", and "Link". "Open in Draw" jumps to the board for editing, and the preview reflects the latest saved version.
Table reference
The table reference connects the note to a table in the Bases module. In "Link" mode it is a compact chip with the table's name; in "Table" mode it expands into a read-only preview with the columns and the first rows (plus the total row count). Clicking it opens the table in Bases — where the data actually lives and is edited.
