Note properties

Every note carries a set of properties: quick switches such as pin, favorite and read only; display preferences that decide which header elements appear; custom fields you define yourself; and automatically recorded metadata, like who created the note and when it was last edited. All of this lives in the Properties panel — a column that opens to the right of the editor. This page explains how to open the panel and what each of its sections does.

Open the Properties panel

  1. 1Open a note in the editor.
  2. 2In the editor top bar, trigger the "Properties" option.
  3. 3The panel opens as a column to the right of the note.
  4. 4To close it, click the X in the panel header (or trigger the option again).
The right-hand column shows one panel at a time: opening Properties closes Table of contents, Backlinks, Comments or Files — and vice versa.

Quick switches

At the top of the panel, three switches change how the current note behaves. Each one applies only to the open note and is saved immediately when toggled.

Pin
Keeps the note pinned, highlighted at the top of the notes list so it is always at hand.
Favorite
Marks the note as a favorite, so it shows up in the Favorites view.
Read only
Protects the note against accidental edits: the content cannot be changed until you turn the switch off.
Locking a note with encryption is not a switch in this panel: it is done from the note's menu in the list, backed by the Vault. See the "Locked notes and Vault" page.

View options

The "View" section decides which parts of the note header and body chrome appear. These are display preferences of yours: they apply to all notes at once, not note by note.

Cover image
Shows or hides the cover image band at the top of the note.
Note icon
Shows or hides the emoji/icon displayed next to the title.
Subtitle
Shows or hides the optional secondary line below the title.
Author
Shows or hides who created the note.
Contributors
Shows or hides the people who contributed to the note (relevant in teams).
Last modified
Shows or hides when the note was last changed.
Attachments bar
Shows or hides the band that gathers the files attached to the note.
Subnotes table
Shows or hides the table of subnotes (chapters) at the top of a parent note — see the "Subnotes" page.

Custom properties

Beyond the built-in switches, you can attach your own fields to a note — a status, a source, a rating, a review date. Each custom property has a name, a type and a value, and is saved with the note automatically as you type.

  1. 1In the "Custom properties" section, click the + button ("Add property").
  2. 2Give the field a name ("Name").
  3. 3Pick the type: Text, Number, Date, Checkbox or Select.
  4. 4Fill in the value ("Value") — changes are saved automatically.
  5. 5To remove a property, click the X on its row.
Changing a property's type resets its value to a sensible default for the new type (for example, a checkbox starts unchecked).

Owner and metadata

The panel also shows information that myrna records on its own — you don't type it and it cannot be edited.

Owner
Who created the note, with their avatar initial. In teams, a "Contributors" list also appears with everyone who took part in the note.
Created at
When the note was created. Read-only.
Last edited at
When the note was last modified. Read-only.

Linked notes and version history

  • "Linked notes" summarizes the note's connections: how many notes link to it (backlinks) and how many it links to.
  • "Version history" opens the list of automatic snapshots of the note, so you can inspect and restore earlier versions.
