Import, export, trash and sync

Your data is yours, and it should flow in and out of myrna without friction. Here you'll learn how to bring entire AI assistant conversations into your notes, export a single module or your whole account, understand the 30-day trash that protects every module, install myrna as an app for offline use, and see how autosave and the offline queue protect your work even when the internet drops. The rule is simple: nothing you write should be lost, and nothing should stay locked in here.

Import AI assistant conversations

myrna reads an AI assistant's export file and recreates each conversation as a complete note, inside a new notebook created just for that import. The original date of each conversation is preserved, so your timeline still makes sense. Images that come in the export as embedded data files are brought in too and appear inside the notes — they aren't left out.

Where to get the export file

In your AI assistant, open the account settings and look for the option to export or download your data (it's usually under a privacy or data controls section).
You'll typically receive an email with a link to download a .zip file with your conversation history. Keep that file.

How to import into myrna

1Download and keep the export .zip file (no need to unzip it; myrna accepts the .zip directly).
2Open the command palette with Ctrl/Cmd+K.
3Search for the importer and open it.
4Drop the export .zip file onto the marked area, or pick it through the file selector.
5Wait for processing. myrna creates a new notebook and, inside it, a note for each conversation, with the images already embedded.
6Open the new notebook to review your conversations, now as notes you can edit, tag and connect to the rest.

The conversations become ordinary notes: from there you edit them, add tags, create links between them and move them to other notebooks like any other note.

The importer also accepts export files from other note apps — use the same importer in the command palette.

Export your notes

At any time you can download all of your notes in a single ZIP file. Inside it, each note becomes a Markdown file (.md) — a simple, open text format that opens in virtually any editor — along with its attachments. It's your backup and your passport to take your content elsewhere whenever you want.

2Go to the export notes option.
3Confirm to generate the package.
4myrna builds a ZIP file with the notes in Markdown and their attachments and makes it available for download.
5Keep the ZIP wherever you prefer: on your computer, a USB drive or a cloud service you trust.

The body of locked notes is left out of the export on purpose, so they stay private even inside the package. All other notes are exported in full.

Export your entire account

Beyond the notes package, myrna offers full-account portability: the "Export all my data" button in Settings → Account → Profile downloads a single JSON file with the structured content of every module — notes, notebooks, templates, tasks and projects, appointments, contacts, references, bases (tables and rows), forms, and journals with their entries.

Files (images and attachments) are referenced in the export, not embedded — the notes ZIP above is the way to carry the files themselves.
Journal entries protected by the vault leave in encrypted form: only you, with your key, can read them. Honest by design.

Trash: 30 days of regret-proofing

Deleting something in myrna almost never destroys it on the spot. Every module — Notes, Tasks, Calendar, Journal, Contacts, Bases, Forms, Draw and References — has its own trash: deleted items go there first and can be restored with one click.

Items stay in the trash for 30 days; after that they are purged automatically and permanently.
To recover, open the module's trash, find the item and choose restore.
To free space or clear the list at once, use the empty-trash action — that removal is immediate and final.

Many delete actions also offer a brief Undo right after — the fastest way to reverse a slip.

Use offline and install as an app

myrna is an installable web app (PWA). That means you can add it to your phone's home screen or install it on your computer as if it were a native program: it gets its own icon and opens in its own window, without the browser bar. The core features are kept in cache, so the app opens even without internet, in read mode.

Install on your phone

1Open myrna in your phone's browser.
2In the browser menu, choose "Add to home screen" (or the equivalent option).
3Confirm. A myrna icon appears alongside your other apps.
4Open myrna from that icon to use it full screen, like a regular app.

Install on your computer

1Open myrna in a compatible modern browser.
2Look for the install icon in the address bar, or the install option in the browser menu.
3Confirm the installation. myrna now opens in its own window, with an icon on the desktop or in the apps menu.

Offline, myrna works in read mode: you can open and consult whatever was already cached. To create and edit with guaranteed saving, you need to reconnect. Changes made without a connection are protected by the sync queue described below.

Saving and syncing

You don't need to hit "save". myrna saves automatically as you work, and a single status indicator shows where the save stands: saving, saved or error. That way you always know whether your work is already safe.

Saving: Your changes are being sent right now. Just wait a few moments.
Saved: Everything was written successfully. You can close the tab with peace of mind.
Error: Something blocked the save (usually the internet dropped). Don't worry: the changes aren't lost — they go into the queue and are resent on their own.

What happens when the connection drops

If a save fails or you're offline, the changes don't disappear: they go into a local queue and are kept there. This queue is app-wide — notes, tasks, appointments, journal entries, contacts and more all use it. As soon as the connection comes back, myrna resends everything automatically, in the right order, until the indicator returns to "saved". You don't have to do anything — just let the app reconnect.

Because of this queue, avoid clearing your browser data while there are changes pending to be sent (with the indicator outside the "saved" state). Wait for it to show "saved" to be sure everything has already synced.

Storage and images

Files you attach live in secure cloud storage, and each plan has its own storage quota. A usage bar in Settings (Profile and Storage sections) shows how much is taken. To help your quota last, images inserted into notes are automatically recompressed into WebP, a modern format that keeps quality while occupying a fraction of the space. Settings → Storage also offers a cleanup that removes orphan files no longer linked to any note.

Import and export in other modules

Beyond notes, other modules have their own import and export paths, with formats suited to each kind of data. Check the page of the corresponding module for the detailed steps.

Bases: imports and exports tables in CSV, the universal spreadsheet format.
Contacts: imports and exports in the vCard format (.vcf), the contact card standard recognized by phones and email clients — both available from the command palette (Ctrl/Cmd+K).

Transparency about your data is part of the product. The Terms of Service (/legal/terms), Privacy Policy (/legal/privacy) and the content report / takedown channel (/legal/takedown) are public pages, linked from the app.
