Appointments
An appointment is any item you place on the Calendar. This page explains the appointment types you can choose from, how to create one, how events can span several days or cross midnight, and how to reschedule or resize directly on the timeline by dragging. For repeating appointments, see "Recurrence"; to move between days and views, see "Views and navigation".
Appointment types
When you create or edit an appointment, its type sets its nature and adjusts the form to fit. All types share the same date, time, calendar, and status; a few change which extra fields appear.
- Commitment
- A regular item on your calendar. You give it a subject and, if you like, invite people.
- Meeting
- A gathering with other people. Like a commitment, it lets you add attendees.
- Meet-up
- A block of time to get together or work with someone specific. It's tied to a person from the Contacts module instead of a free-text subject.
- Blocked time
- A reserved period when you don't want to be scheduled. You give it a reason; location and attendees don't apply.
- Reminder
- A one-off alert, without necessarily taking up a time slot.
Create an appointment
Start a new appointment from a time slot, the keyboard, or the "New appointment" button in the top bar. It opens in a dialog where you fill in the details.
- 1Click an empty time slot in the Day or Week view, press N, or use the "New appointment" button — right-clicking an empty slot also offers "Create event".
- 2Choose the type and the calendar it belongs to.
- 3Type the subject (or pick a contact, for a Meet-up).
- 4Set the date and the start and end times, or mark it "All day".
- 5Choose the status and, if relevant, fill in the location, attendees, and notes.
- 6To make it repeat, turn on "Repeat event".
- 7Save. The appointment appears immediately in every view.
Multi-day and overnight events
An appointment doesn't have to fit inside one day. The "Ends on" field sets an optional end date for events that span several days; and if you set an end time earlier than the start time, the event simply crosses midnight into the next day. Either way, it appears on every day it touches: until midnight on the first day, from 00:00 on the following ones, and up to its real end time on the last.
Edit and reschedule
Click any appointment to open it and change any field, or right-click it for quick actions — edit, change the status, or delete. To reschedule without opening the dialog, drag it straight on the calendar:
- In the Day view, drag an appointment to another time, or drag its top or bottom edge to shorten or lengthen the duration — times adjust in 5-minute steps, and an appointment can't be made shorter than 15 minutes.
- In the Week view, drag an appointment onto another day or time slot to move it there.
- Dragging one occurrence of a repeating series moves only that occurrence — the rest of the series stays where it was.
Status
The status tracks where an appointment stands, from booked to done. You set it in the dialog or from the right-click menu, and can filter by it in the List view.
- Scheduled
- The appointment has been booked.
- Confirmed
- The appointment is confirmed.
- Done
- The appointment has already happened and is finished.
- Cancelled
- The appointment is not going to happen.
