Organize and navigate
The Journal grows one day at a time, across several diaries — so finding your way matters. This page covers the "My diaries" shelf, the views inside a diary, moving through your history by date, tags, the Timeline with its Memories, and search.
The shelf
The module opens on the "My diaries" shelf, where each diary is a notebook with its cover, emoji, subtitle, entry count and the date of its last entry. This is where diaries are created and managed:
- Create a diary with the dashed "Create new diary" card at the end of the shelf, or with the "Create new diary" button in the top bar. Give it a name, an optional subtitle, a color, an emoji and a cover.
- The ⋮ menu on each notebook ("Diary options") offers "Edit diary", "Share diary" and "Delete diary".
- "Delete diary" asks for confirmation and sends the diary's entries to the trash along with it.
- Diaries received from others sit at the end of the shelf, marked "Shared with you".
Views inside a diary
The module sidebar holds the diary selector ("Choose diary") and the list of views. Every view except the shelf shows a secondary panel next to the editor — drag its right edge to resize it.
- My diaries
- Back to the shelf.
- Timeline
- Today, Memories, search and the day list grouped by year and month.
- Calendar
- Vertically scrolling months where each day cell shows the day's photo, or a dot when there is an entry.
- Media
- Every photo of the diary, by month. See "Photos and cover".
- Map
- The recorded locations as pins on a world map; clicking a pin opens that day.
Navigate by date
- 1Use "Previous day" and "Next day" (the arrows in the header) to step one day at a time.
- 2Click the date field between the arrows: a small calendar opens where days with an entry have a green background and today is outlined. Pick any day, or switch months with "Previous month" and "Next month".
- 3Click "Today" to jump straight back to the current day.
- 4Your edits are saved before each jump, so moving between days never loses text.
Tags
Each entry can carry hashtag-style tags to group days by theme. They live right below the title of the day.
- 1Click the "Add tag…" field below the title, type the tag and press Enter — it appears as a #chip.
- 2Remove a tag with the small x on its chip ("Remove tag").
- 3Type a tag into the Timeline search to gather every day that carries it.
The Timeline
The "Timeline" is the diary's reading room. From top to bottom:
- A "Today" card that jumps to the current day from anywhere.
- "Memories": this day in the past — the same date 1, 3 and 6 months ago and in previous years, whenever those days have entries.
- The day list grouped by year and, inside each year, by month — each group collapsible, with its entry count. Collapsed groups stay collapsed the next time.
- Rich day cards: the big day number and weekday, the title (or a body preview), the mood emoji and the day's photo thumbnail.
Search
The "Search entries" box at the top of the Timeline filters the list as you type. It matches the entry title, the date, the month name, the tags and the body text — so you can find a day by what you called it, when it happened, how you tagged it or what you wrote. Clear the box to bring the full history back.
