Mood and context

Beyond the text, each journal entry records the context of your day: the mood you felt, the place where you were and that day's weather. This page shows how to set each of these from the open entry — everything saves automatically, with no save button. Tags and the day's photos have their own pages.

Mood

The mood is an emoji that sums up how the day felt. You choose from a fixed set of six moods, from best to worst, using the mood selector ("Mood") in the header bar of the open diary.

  1. 1In the open diary, click the "Mood" selector in the header bar (a smiley icon while no mood is set).
  2. 2Pick the emoji that matches the day: 😄 great, 🙂 good, 😐 neutral, 😕 bad, 😢 sad, or 😠 angry.
  3. 3To remove the mood, open the selector again and use the eraser ("Clear mood").
The chosen mood follows the day everywhere: next to the date above the title, in the status bar, on the day cards of the "Timeline" — and in the "Calendar" view, days with a mood show a golden dot instead of a green one.

One diary per theme

Entries no longer carry a per-entry category. That role now belongs to the diaries themselves: create one diary per theme — work, travel, health — each with its own color, emoji and cover, and write the day in the notebook it belongs to. See "Organize and navigate" for the shelf.

Location

You can record where you were, either by typing the name of the place or by capturing your current position. When coordinates are captured, the place also becomes a pin on the diary's "Map" view and a link you can open in Google Maps.

  1. 1In the entry, type the name of the place in the "Location" field, right below the tags.
  2. 2Or click the crosshair button ("Use my location") to capture where you are now; the browser asks for permission the first time.
  3. 3Once the place has coordinates, use "Open in maps" (the external-link icon) to open it in Google Maps.
Capturing the current position depends on the location permission of your device or browser. If you deny it or the browser blocks it, nothing is captured — you can still type the place by hand.

Weather

The day's weather comes from the entry's coordinates. Right after you capture your current position, the weather is fetched automatically; if the entry already has coordinates but no weather yet, a "Weather" button appears next to the location so you can fetch it. It shows a short description and the temperature in °C.

The weather comes from an external weather service. If the service is not available, the "Weather" button simply does not appear and the rest of the entry keeps working.
Every entry with coordinates becomes a pin in the "Map" view of the diary — with the day's photo as the pin when there is one. To browse the map, see "Organize and navigate".
