Entries

Inside each diary the Journal is organized by date: every day holds a single entry, with a title and a body written in the same rich editor used by Notes. This page covers how to open a diary and start today's entry, how to write and edit, how everything is saved on its own, and how to delete a day with undo. Mood, photos and organization each have their own page.

Open a diary and start today's entry

You do not create an entry with a button: you open a diary, pick a day and start writing. When the chosen day has no entry yet in that diary, one is created automatically the moment you type in the title or the body, and it begins saving right away.

  1. 1Open the Journal from the dark rail on the left — it starts on the "My diaries" shelf.
  2. 2Click a notebook to open that diary (the sidebar selector also switches diaries at any time).
  3. 3You land on today; use the "Today" button, the arrows or the date field in the header to reach another day.
  4. 4Start typing in the "Title of the day" field or in the body ("How was your day?").
  5. 5The day's entry is created automatically and begins saving as you write.
If the diary is marked "Encrypted by the vault" and the vault is locked, opening it shows the "This diary is locked" screen instead — unlock with the "Unlock vault" button and the entries are decrypted on the spot.

Write and edit

An entry has a title and a body. The title is a single line at the top of the page; leave it empty and the day is listed by its body preview in the Timeline. The body is written in the same block editor as Notes, so you get headings, lists, formatting, tables and everything else, with the editor toolbar at the top.

  1. 1Type a short title for the day (optional).
  2. 2Click into the body and write freely using the rich editor.
  3. 3Use the editor toolbar at the top to format text and add blocks.
  4. 4The status bar at the bottom shows the mood, the diary's name and the word ("words") and character ("characters") count — and holds the focus-mode toggle that hides everything around the text.
There is no save button: title and body are saved automatically a moment after you stop typing, and also when you switch days or leave the page. If you are offline, the change waits in a local queue and is synced when the connection returns.

One entry per day — per diary

Each diary keeps exactly one entry per calendar day. When you navigate to a date that already has an entry, you go back to editing it — you never create a second entry for the same day in the same diary. Different diaries are independent: the same date can have one entry in each of them.

Delete a day, with undo

  1. 1Open the day and click the trash button at the right end of the header.
  2. 2Confirm — the toast "Entry moved to trash" appears.
  3. 3Click "Undo" in the toast to bring the entry straight back ("Entry restored").
Deleting is a soft delete: the entry leaves the diary but the immediate "Undo" restores it exactly as it was. Deleting a whole diary also sends its entries to the trash.

Read-only diaries

A diary someone shared with you shows the "Read only" badge in the header: you can browse and read every day, but the title, body and all context fields are locked — only the owner writes. See the module overview for how sharing works.
