Add and edit
This page covers how to create and edit a single contact. The form is organized into tabs — General, Address, Social, and Notes — and most fields accept multiple values, so one contact can hold several emails, phone numbers, addresses, and dates. Only the name is required; fill in whatever else is useful and leave the rest blank. It also covers merging duplicates and what happens when you delete a contact.
Create a contact
A new contact opens with an empty form, ready to fill in. The header, above the tabs, is always visible so you can set the name, photo, nickname, and pronouns from any tab.
- 1Open the Contacts module.
- 2Click New contact in the top bar to open a blank form.
- 3Type the name in the header field — it is the only required field.
- 4Fill in the tabs you need: General for work and contact details, Address, Social, and Notes.
- 5Save the form. The contact appears in the list.
The form tabs
The header holds the fields common to the whole contact — photo, name, nickname, and pronouns — and stays put as you switch tabs. Each tab then groups a set of related fields.
- General
- Company, department, and role; categories; emails, phones, and dates; tags; and the Favorite contact toggle.
- Address
- One or more addresses, each with a label, street, city, state / province, postal code, and country — plus the Locate action for the map.
- Social
- Website, social profiles (LinkedIn, Instagram, X, Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, GitHub, and others), and related people.
- Notes
- A free-text field for any annotation you want to keep about the contact.
Multiple values
Emails, phones, addresses, dates, social profiles, and related people can each have more than one entry. Every entry carries a label so you can tell them apart — for example a work and a home email, or a mobile and a fax number.
- 1On the relevant tab, click the add button for that field (Add email, Add phone, Add date, Add address, Add profile, Add person).
- 2Pick a label for the new entry, such as Work, Home, Mobile, or Other.
- 3Type the value; repeat to add as many entries as you need.
- 4To drop an entry, click the remove button next to it.
Photo, birthday and dates
Add a photo from the header to make the contact easy to spot; when there is no photo, the app shows the initials of the name instead. Birthdays and other important dates live under Dates on the General tab, with the labels Birthday, Anniversary, and Other.
- 1In the header, click the avatar to upload a photo; leave it empty to fall back to the name's initials.
- 2On the General tab, click Add date and set its label to Birthday.
- 3Pick the date; add more dates, such as an Anniversary, the same way.
Addresses on the map
Each address can be located on the map. Fill in the address fields, then click Locate to look up its coordinates; once found, they appear next to the button, and the contact's detail view gains a View on map link that opens the point in your browser.
Edit a contact
- 1Select the contact in the list to open its detail panel.
- 2Click Edit; the form loads with the current values across all tabs.
- 3Change any field, add or remove multiple-value entries, or replace the photo.
- 4Save to apply the changes.
Merge duplicates
When two or more contacts share an email or phone number, a Merge duplicates button appears above the list. It opens a dialog that groups the suspected duplicates and lets you review each group with a full preview before anything happens.
- 1Click the Merge duplicates button above the list, then Review and merge on a group.
- 2Choose the Primary contact — the one that keeps the base data.
- 3For each scalar field in conflict (company, role, department, website, nickname, pronouns), pick which value to keep.
- 4Check the summary: emails and phones are combined with no loss.
- 5Click Merge into primary.
Delete and the trash
Deleting a contact from the detail panel sends it to the trash — it is not destroyed. Open Trash in the sidebar to see deleted contacts; from there you can Restore one, Delete forever, or use Empty trash to clear everything after a confirmation.
